Not allowing the Braaap but maybe allowing carbon boats? What is logic?
Maybe they should do like Nascar and make everyone paddle the same boats. Then and only then will they find out who the fastest truly is...

You can run the middle section a hundred times and never get tired of it. if you run the upper, run the Olympic section. the rest has a few good spots but if you don't know the route you can get tied up in trees. just ask the people that got pulled from the trees a month or so ago. and the upper is a little long in between the rapids. you will enjoy the middle... I suggest staying there. there are countless moves to keep you interested. I would join you but I will be at a beer festival that weekend. have fun dude! and don't surf grumpy's like the other guy... bad idea.

I got another inch in my rain gauge since yesterday morning. About 4" over the past three days. I suspect the levels will hold for a minute. Love this time of year.

Any beta out there on Big Creek today?

Does anyone know who is responsible for the work being done on the put-tin for the gorge?
Is it AW or the raft companys?
It is awesome to not have to walk through mud to put your boat in. Just want to say thanks...

going to try to get down to the smokies tomorrow. hope there is still some water around!

75 bucks is cheap as hell dude. The outfitting that comes with the boat would be worth that. Then you could paddle it whenever/however you want and make sure that's the boat you want.

Roscoe's not a tweaker either, he's offering you a great deal on a boat you're interested in.

at 1000 cfs the gorge will be a III+ for the first few miles and not pushy. just make sure of your lines in quarter-mile, especially be cautious of Murphy's Ledge. That is a keeper at any level.
the gradient slows after roostertail and it is class II with a few III's scattered in.
the lower will be rocky in a few spots at 1000 cfs, class II all the way. radio rapid might be a III(-).it is much better at 2000 cfs. and radio never gets above a III.
if the smokies aren't running... I will be at the noli this weekend. maybe see ya there.

I can run the long shuttle. leave your car at the takeout.
and I can provide a few beers.
hit me up.

it will be to pull info out of a survey that the taker writes in their own answers. You should provide multiple choice answers so you can have hard data to review.
Also I agree with the comment above, one of those multiple choices should be no injury. I am in the no injury boat right now.*fingers crossed*
hope this helps.

BoaterTalk You need a key.
if you don't plan on walking a long ways with your kayak strap to your back, you need a key for the takeout.

BoaterTalk You got it!
if you use a generic foam block and are not artistic...
find someone who is.

Buy a cheap roll of aluminum foil and stuff it in the bow with your feet until it is comfy. then take it out and use as a guide to shape the foam.

Liquid Lounge Yep. 2
Their process is questionable. Putting toasted oak spirals in a spirit doesn't make good whisky. I think if it did, they would have figured this out long ago and stopped wasting time and money on barrels. I know they state they are "unbound by barrels or convention," but I think they wanted to get some cash flow for their business as soon as possible. Aging whisky for 8+ years in a barrel doesn't have a quick return on investment.
Taste of a young whisky; thin, grainy, not too much there. alcohol flavor dominates and only 82 proof.
I run a bar that has around 230 whisk(e)ys... this on is not on the shelf yet.
But maybe I am picky.

BoaterTalk Low Noli flows...
The lowest I would consider running the upper Noli is 400cfs, and I would have to be desperate. Even then it gets boney, put still has some fun factor to it. Rock Garden gets impossible below 600 and you will beat up your boat. The lower is not worth it below 800, really needs to be 1000 or more. But right now in East TN and Western NC it is desperate. We got a front coming through and I am hoping the Noli gets up over 400. 260cfs right now... and not moving much.

Planner gear and nanty 1
i dont know about renting gear in the bryson city area... but if you find a place the nanty is a fun and easy trip for a competent class 3 boater.
Also there are always people on the river who can assist you if needed. you shouldnt need a guide though, it is a straightforward run with little obstacles.
sirkevin
the nolichucky is always a good paddle in a remote gorge. has lots of camping sites along the shores. can be a full day, over nighter, or stretched into two nights if you like to do some playing and relaxing on the river. only an hour from asheville. most creeks in the area are too low to run in the summer months.
sirkevin
the noli will be really low this weekend (prob around 400cfs) unless it rains friday night. even if you run the gorge it will be all class III stuff with easy portages if needed.
the lower noli will be scrappy at that level.
